About

Background

This site is intended to be a complete catalogue of the flat, two-dimensional jigsaw puzzles produced by Wrebbit in the early 2000's. At least one fan had catalogued their 3-D puzzles, but information on the internet regarding the Perfalock line was missing. This site attempts to rectify that.

A project to identify all of the puzzles became an effort to acquire them, in part to provide consistent information (such as images) for each puzzle. A number of anomalies in packaging, numbering and die cuts led to a careful examination beyond simply the puzzle images. This site is the result of that investigation.

As this has been an ad hoc investigation without access to the company's manufacturing, marketing or shipping information, it is not authoritative or necessarily complete. If you are aware of any information missing from this catalogue, please contact the author.

Now that the collection is complete, I am looking for a home for the puzzles. If you know of any museums, libraries or organizations that would be interested in a set of Canadian jigsaw puzzles, please contact the author.

Company History

Wrebbit

1991 Wrebbit is founded. The company begins to manufacture its first Puzz-3D®, three-dimensional jigsaw puzzle model in a gage on Berri Street in Montreal.

In 1994, the Disney empire grants licenses to Wrebbit so that they may manufacture and distribute models such as "Cinderella's Castle", "Snow White" and "The Lion King".

1995 The company bursts onto the international market. An alliance is concluded with the American company, Milton Bradley.

1996 The company continues to develop new products such as "The All Paper Clock", "Golf, the Perfect Game", "Mixmath", the cross-numbers game and the "Discover" viewer. Thanks to its alliance with Hasbro, the duo Wrebbit-Milton Bradley is honoured with "Canada-United-States for Business Achievement Award".

1997 The company still found the time to develop four new families of products: "the Medieval Clock", part of the Built Art Collection. The Puzz-3D® for Kids family offers two brand new products: The Poster Puzzles and the Animals. The All Paper Collection also has a new family member: "The All Paper Camera". Finally, the Puzz-3D® CD, its first model represents a virtual "Notre-Dame de Paris" Cathedral, which, once assembled, offers you all the opportunity of an exceptional visit.

1999 Wrebbit launches 2 new lines of products in its Wrebbit Creativities division. Paint-3D reinvents paint by number by offering over 10 models in 3D to be painted and assembled in an integrated frame. The Color'n Roll family of products, more or less revolutionizes "traditional" coloring by offering different items, such as a refillable Coloring Desk, Coloring Totes, coloring Kits and refills. The Lovin' Heart doll is the newborn in Wrebbit's family of products, which will be spreading its peace message in the fall of 1999 and, more importantly, in the turn of this new Millennium in the year 2000 and on.

2002 Wrebbit is bought out by Irwin Toys. Subsequently, Irwin Toys went bankrupt and is bought back by the original owners.

2005 Wrebbit is bought out by Hasbro Toys.

Perfalock

Perfalock first appeared on their website prior to Dec 2, 2000. It is introduced for 6 puzzles.

Wrebbit the creator of Puzz-3D® is revolutionizing the jigsaw puzzle! With its unique perfalock concept, Wrebbit is launching the first ever pliable puzzle! Assemble it!Perfalock pieces are laminated on a high density foam.Carry it from room to room!Perfalock puzzles can be picked up and moved without falling apart.Hang it!Perfalock pieces stick together without messy glue.

Their patent application emphasized the cohesion and pliability as the novelty being patented, so all of their advertising and packaging was clear to point this out.

Wrebbit introduces its first series of 6 beautiful images, from scenic landscapes to period scenes. Looking for something completely different?Wrebbit's new Perfalock system is the answer. Amazing as it is, the Perfalock system allows puzzle pieces to stay together solidly without glue. The puzzles can be picked up and moved from room to room. Display then on a wall and use them as a decorative item anywhere you can think of. Perfalock will do it all! Wrebbit introduces its first series of 6 beautiful illustrations, from nature landscapes to animals and antiques scenes.

New puzzles were released every year, with the 500 piece puzzles appearing in 2002 in both the smaller size and poster size. A few collections were issued, a 3 part New York set in 2001, an Elvis Presley set of 6 in 2002 and the Lord of the Rings set of 6 in 2002 and 2003. The order of release and dates are not known as the web site was updated sporadically, copyright dates are imprecise and product numbers have gaps, duplications and several different series.

Their patent application was granted and the U.S. patent number 6, 517, 071 appears on labels beginning in 2003.

The packaging reflects the changes in ownership. No further Perfalock puzzles were issued after the eight in 2005. However, Hasbro did introduce a new line - FoamFit - in 2006 under their MB Puzzle label, using the same patent number and additional patents in Canada, China and Hong Kong that only lasted about a year. But that is another story and will be told another time.
